What is a balikbayan box? A door-to-door sea cargo box (usually 18x18x24 to 24x24x24 inches) that Filipinos abroad send home tax-free under Philippine law, through licensed freight forwarders. Only forwarders accredited by the DTI Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau may legally consolidate and ship them.

Why accreditation matters

Balikbayan box fraud usually starts with an unaccredited consolidator: boxes paid for, never delivered, and no license to revoke. The DTI-FTEB list is the official record of who is allowed to ship consolidated balikbayan boxes to the Philippines, and each accreditation has an expiry date. 25 companies on the current list have already lapsed.
